  • "I used to think that doulas were only for unmedicated births, but my doctor recommended I look into hiring one for my baby's birth. In a panic at 36 weeks pregnant, I found Boston Area Doulas. Kathleen quickly paired me with Sarah and my only regret was that I didn't reach out sooner! Sarah was calm and professional throughout the entire process (despite my vomiting all over the floor minutes before our first meeting). She provided invaluable emotional support when I contracted covid-19 at 39 weeks. We made backup birth plans as we were unsure who would be allowed in the delivery room covid-positive. She stayed in close contact with me the entire month and was always quick to respond. After two days of slow labor, Sarah walked me through a few exercises and positions to help move the labor along and two hours later I was on the way to the hospital! She arrived soon after we did and had command of the room. The nurses looked to her for the next steps and I was grateful to have someone in charge that knew my preferences. After three hours of pushing, Sarah explained that I might be offered a vacuum-assisted delivery. She gave me time to think about it and when the doctor recommended it, I felt confident in my decision to use it. With the baby fresh in our arms, my partner and I couldn't stop talking about how helpful Sarah had been to us both. She offered emotional and physical support, anticipating our needs and calmly walking us through each step.
